Advantages and Disadvantages of a Hardwood Floor

from:

There is a natural and timeless feeling of warmth, beauty, and sophistication that comes from the look of a hardwood floor that is difficult to reproduce with any other floor covering option. The actual biggest deciding factor for people selecting a hardwood floor is the feeling of warmth and comfort that it can give a room and how it can really make a house feel like a home. Also, hardwood floors are an option which gives a room an expensive and high quality finish that is hard to get with any other type of flooring.

Advantages of a Hardwood Floor

A primary advantage to installing a hardwood floor is that of the investment factor. A hardwood floor is a very good investment, as both real estate agents and real estate investors have often used the strategy of installing hardwood flooring to increase their return on investment with houses they purchase, fix up, and resell for a profit.

Also, hardwood floors have better acoustic properties than that of laminate flooring for example, and is also healthier towards the air quality in your home, in that there is much lower levels of chemical emissions from natural wood products than other options available.

Another advantage especially if you have children or pets is that a hardwood floor does not accumulate and trap such things as dust, particulates and allergens that commonly occur with carpeting. They are also easy to clean, when compared to that of most other flooring options, and is even more economical in the longterm. If you were to consider your flooring costs over a 30 year period, you may actually end up saving up to 40 per cent or more when compared to alternate flooring choices.

Although you will need a few refinishing efforts over the years, such as sanding and finishing coats, the fact that carpets and vinyl for instance would need to be replaced at least a few times in that period, you can see that in the long run hardwood flooring will actually save you time and money.

Finally, there are endless design possibilities with hardwood flooring, anything from painting to staining, and everything in between. Hardwoods seem to have a rather timeless quality in that they never go out of style, and have been used in such things as castles, churches, and private estates for hundreds of years in places like Europe and still continue to perform well in all types of interior design styles.

For Miami Heat's Pat Riley, filling out roster a chemistry lesson

``Bring back Shaq!'' ``Hey T-Mac is still out there!'' ``They should sign Iverson!'' Too numerous to count are the times I have heard comments such as these mentioned by Heat fans or seen them written in e-mails over the past few days. I prefer the e-mails, because when said directly to me the comments tend to be accompanied by a strong waft of liquor -- as thinking Miami should sign Shaquille O ...
