Wood flooring How to Take Care of Your Floor to make it Last for a Long Time

from:

Wood flooring can be very good especially if you want something that has a classic touch to it. However, wood flooring is one of the most difficult types of floors when it comes to maintenance. There are a lot of things that could destroy the natural texture of the wood flooring that you should always make it a point to take extra care of your wooden floor. The good news is, if you know to take care of your wood flooring, you can actually expect your floor to last for a long time. When cleaning your wood flooring, you should avoid using water. Water or any waterbased cleanser would cause the wood to rot easily. To clean your floor, you should use wax instead. Put the wax on a rug and apply regularly especially in heavy traffic areas. If you have a big family, make sure that you apply wax regularly on areas like the workstations, the stair landings, room entries and other parts of the house, which are often used. Applying wax on wood would help slow down the process of wear and tear.

Tips on How to Take Care of Your Wood Flooring

Use doormats at all exterior doors so that people coming into the house will be able to wipe their shoes clean before entering the house. Sand, dirt, grease and dirt would not do the wood flooring any good so make sure that to put some doormats. During rainy season, it would be a good idea to provide a shoe rack and some dry shoes or slippers just outside of your front door so that family members coming in from the rain would be able to change into something dry before coming into the house.

Now, when installing heavy furniture into the house, use some pads on the legs of the furniture to avoid causing dents on your floor. Also, when moving furniture inside your house, do not drag them on the floor. Dragging your furniture on the floor will cause scratches that may be very hard to remove. Lift the furniture if you want to transfer it from one place to another.

If you have pets in the house, make sure that you trim their nails regularly. The long nails of your dog or cat will leave some dents into the wood flooring. Furthermore, make sure that the paws of your dog are clean when it comes inside the house. Do not let your dog inside the house unless you are sure that its paws do don't carry with it some dirt, gravel or oils that may stain your floor.
